If you are considering renting a car, I recommend Poas Rent A Car. They are the only car rental company in Costa Rica that will drop off and pick up a rental in the town of Puerto Viejo; a great option if you don’t need a car for your entire trip.

Air service is available from Sansa Air, with daily departures between San Jose and Limon. The 50 minute flight is approximately $60 per person, one way. Shuttle service is available from the Limon airport to Puerto Viejo.
